Pilates is a full body workout aimed at strengthening and flexibility, with a strong focus on core strength providing wonderful support and stability for the back, pelvis and body as a whole; improving posture, pain and mobility also.
Our Pilates exercises are designed by physiotherapists and are low impact. Sessions are personalised with modifications provided when necessary. We cater to different levels in the one class, with clients individual limitations and goals being considered also.
In our classes we strongly encourage each person to ‘Listen their body’, not pushing the body to cause any pain especially in the back, neck, joints or any other injuries that may be present, but working ‘with’ the body to support, strengthen and heal at your own pace. Challenging our bodies gently and safely – honouring our bodies exactly where they’re at.
We offer Reformer, Mat Mix (combination of Mat and Reformer), Pilates for Back Pain, and Chair Pilates. Classes are with a maximum of 10 people per class. Reformer classes have a maximum of 7 people per class. Private sessions and Duo’s also available
WE OFFER:
REFORMER
These classes also provide a full body workout using spring loaded Reformers. These classes are suitable for different levels – for beginners, but also providing extra challenges for the more advanced providing plenty of opportunity to get your heart rate up and feel your muscles burning. These classes are small with a maximum of 7 people, so you will get plenty of support here.
Using top of the range Rehabilitation Reformers, weighing a solid 90kg each, longer and wider than the average Reformer and adjustable in many ways to accomodate different body sizes.
To attend Reformer classes, we do suggest a private session on the Reformer before participating in the group class. Grip socks are recommended in these classes. Reformers are disinfected between classes.
MAT MIX
A mix of mat, small equipment and incorporating some simple reformer exercises also. These classes involve some rotation of equipment and workout the whole body.
PILATES FOR BACK PAIN
These classes are designed to support and strengthen muscles, with a large focus on correct core muscle activation and core strength to help support & stabilise the spine and pelvis. Exercises taught are very safe for the back and always supervised so as to not exacerbate any existing problems.
CHAIR PILATES
These classes accommodate people who prefer to do pilates exercises seated and standing, catering to people who struggle to get up and down on the floor due to mobility limitations, vertigo etc. Included in these classes is a full body workout with stretching.
PRIVATE SESSIONS
Private Sessions are also available with an option for 30 or 50 minute sessions.
These are a wonderful opportunity to tailor make the session to your goals and needs, catering to any limitations you may have. These sessions can be undertaken on the mat or Reformer or a mix of both.
Yes you can do pilates with injuries and restrictions. Modifications can be given so as to not exacerbate any problems. However a Physio / Doctors clearance will sometimes be required in some instances – particularly in such cases as chronic injuries or post surgery etc.
Yes pilates classes at Breathe are suitable for beginners and more advanced. However a few 1 on 1 sessions can also be a great way to prepare for classes so you feel more familiar with the basic principles and some of the exercises. An orientation or private session is essential for Reformer classes if it’s your first time using Reformer.
I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip in the sacrum area quite a few years back. There were times I could not walk the pain was so bad. I have been attending Marie’s Pilates classes for nearly 4 years now, and the benefit to my hip is just amazing. I can honestly say that I have not had any pain in I don’t know how long. The slow, core strengthening exercises are just what I needed. I am so glad I have found a beneficial exercise routine that I actually enjoy and benefit from at the same time!
Thank you to Breathe Wellness & Beauty Mat Pilates as I am now pain-free. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis, the side effects are lower back pain, stiffness in back and legs, thigh pain, tight hamstrings, and buttock muscles. I have been living with lower back pain for over 20 years. Since attending Pilates with Marie I am now sleeping easier and I can manage my back pain with the exercises and stretching taught in lessons. In my head I can always hear Marie reminding me to keep my T Zone tight and shoulders back and down. Even my posture has improved. Feeling very grateful
I used to suffer from chronic sciatica pain which was to the point where anything touching the painful area was unbearable. Since coming on board with Pilates for the past 6 months or so, the pain has improved by about 80% and just by consistent Pilates sessions every week, the sciatic nerve is being released. Also my Plantar Fasciitis has gone too - I also credit Pilates for that too
